About the OBC

The OBC: Opticians of British Columbia was formed by a group of B.C. opticians who believe it is important to increase the continuing education opportunities for opticians throughout B.C. Who are the OBC: Opticians of British Columbia?
The OBC was born in 2006 from a group of BC opticians who wanted to make getting continuing education credits easier for all opticians in the province. With assistance from the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC), those opticians organized to offer vision screening seminars across the province last fall. The Community Outreach Vision Screening seminars went very well and were met with an enthusiastic response from BC opticians, so the group decided to form OBC: Opticians of British Columbia to expand on their work. What are the objectives of the OBC: Opticians of British Columbia?
Our main goal is to fill the need for a responsive optician's organization in BC. OBC: Opticians of British Columbia is committed to undertaking activities which will: - Make it easier to access continuing education across the province;
- Create networking opportunities for opticians;
- Involve opticians in the growth of the profession;
- Promote opticianry both within the industry and to the public
- Provide a unified voice for the profession; and
- Establish a responsive OBC office for opticians
Is the OBC: Opticians of British Columbia affiliated with other organizations?
Yes. OBC: Opticians of British Columbia works in partnership with the OAC , and through the OAC we are networked with other provincial organizations outside of British Columbia. We are grateful to the OAC as they are providing us with financial and other support, while letting us set our own goals and objectives. We are BC opticians, working for BC opticians! There are lots of opticians in BC with great ideas and tremendous energy and we'd love to have you get involved with OBC.
